3d Conference Planning

3d Event Planning for Conferences.

A themed event needs careful planning and 3d animation is an excellent way to try out ideas prior to an expensive set build. This event for RBS was particularly ambitious and was to be built with Greek-style columns, a mock Olympic race track and back projected Greek landscape scenes. The finishing touch was to be an Olympic torch on top of the conference backdrop.

This conference event for Experian was to be built with an emphasis on contrasting textures. The event manager had a large variety of materials which he showed me and explained how they should be layered to create depth on the stage. It was important to be able to simulate all these materials fairly realistically in order to help the client visualise the effect. The 3d animation shows the hessian, chicken-wire, marble blocks, brushed suede and beaten copper plate textures, and how they would sit together on the stage.

This was a conference on the subject of property finance so the event management team decided to use these building blocks to illustrate the idea. The 3d model was able to convince their client that this would make a striking set for the event.

The mannequin is there simply to put across the idea of the scale of the exhibition elements. Sometimes we use more realistic looking figures for the speakers and even fill the seating in the auditorium with them.

This is a very simple but effective 3d stage plan for a Prudential conference, based around the idea of a Japanese screen effect.

With 3d we were able to illustrate the depth of the set and the contrasting lighting techniques, between the back lit glowing screens and the front lit brushed suede mounted boards.

The purpose of this conference event was to illustrate to the existing workforce at BP how the transition to new owner Innovene (since taken over by Ineos) would work.

The 3d animation shows how the planned walkthrough would take various stages, each described at length by the speaker. As the conference progressed the speaker was to gradually walk towards the Innovene end of the hall, indicating the handover.

This conference was to mark the 60th anniversary of the National Health Service in Scotland and was held at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) in Glasow.

The very simple 3d animation helped to show how the event was going to be staged in two parts. The first part being a talk and the second being a take on ‘This is your life.’
