The International Asian Fashion Awards was to be held at the London Hilton Metropole. We knew which suite the event was to be held in so I was able to obtain detailed measurements of the area and created this scale model. There were photos of the space from which I was able to sample details like the exact carpet and the unusual looking ceiling.

The project manager had supplied a lot of information about the set and every element down to the speakers. The lights were also detailed to me so I was able to simulate their combined effect. The more information that is available the more likely you are to get something which looks realistic.

Normally when I create a 3d model for a trade fair, it’s the detailed plan of one exhibit or stand within the show. But for this government sponsored careers exhibition which was to be held at Dundee’s Caird Hall, I was asked to model the entire space and the layout of all the stands within.

Because of this, the animation is a little sketchy on detail but it was able to show the event planners the broad strokes of how the event would be laid out, using the entire space including the stage.

This 3d event plan for Breast Cancer Care had at its heart the fashion show which was the main feature of the night. But it also had to show how the event would make use of the whole space, not just the auditorium. It was to take over the entire top floor of the Radisson Hotel in Glasgow so a site visit was made, where I took extensive measurements and photographs of the space prior to constructing the 3d model.

There were various details the event manager wanted to include beyond the stage set. The pink lighting was central to the event theme and areas in the foyer were to be allocated for different applications including the sponsors wall, where attendees would be photographed.

A themed event needs careful planning and 3d animation is an excellent way to try out ideas prior to an expensive set build. This event for RBS was particularly ambitious and was to be built with Greek-style columns, a mock Olympic race track and back projected Greek landscape scenes. The finishing touch was to be an Olympic torch on top of the conference backdrop.

When two or more organisations are sharing an exhibition space then it becomes essential to map out exactly how the space will be divided and how shared elements may be used. In this case Experian and QAS were the same company but two different products.

The 3d animation was able to show in advance how the event was going to look, in particular the hemispherical front piece and the pathway which was lit tubing at the sides of the path. An event manager may find it tricky to describe the effects these would have on the exhibition space but a 3d model can illustrate them easily.

This is a very simple but effective 3d stage plan for a Prudential conference, based around the idea of a Japanese screen effect.

With 3d we were able to illustrate the depth of the set and the contrasting lighting techniques, between the back lit glowing screens and the front lit brushed suede mounted boards.

The purpose of this conference event was to illustrate to the existing workforce at BP how the transition to new owner Innovene (since taken over by Ineos) would work.

The 3d animation shows how the planned walkthrough would take various stages, each described at length by the speaker. As the conference progressed the speaker was to gradually walk towards the Innovene end of the hall, indicating the handover.

This set plan used a lot of individual exhibits that the client was familiar with but hadn’t seen them used together in a trade show environment. The 3d model was able to simulate the wide range of textures and lighting techniques to give the client a good idea beforehand as to how the exhibition stand might look.

The Ingenico part of this trade exhibition was built around a portable bar with plasma screen and computer pod workstations.

This conference was to mark the 60th anniversary of the National Health Service in Scotland and was held at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) in Glasow.

The very simple 3d animation helped to show how the event was going to be staged in two parts. The first part being a talk and the second being a take on ‘This is your life.’
