Normally when I create a 3d model for a trade fair, it’s the detailed plan of one exhibit or stand within the show. But for this government sponsored careers exhibition which was to be held at Dundee’s Caird Hall, I was asked to model the entire space and the layout of all the stands within.

Because of this, the animation is a little sketchy on detail but it was able to show the event planners the broad strokes of how the event would be laid out, using the entire space including the stage.

When two or more organisations are sharing an exhibition space then it becomes essential to map out exactly how the space will be divided and how shared elements may be used. In this case Experian and QAS were the same company but two different products.

The 3d animation was able to show in advance how the event was going to look, in particular the hemispherical front piece and the pathway which was lit tubing at the sides of the path. An event manager may find it tricky to describe the effects these would have on the exhibition space but a 3d model can illustrate them easily.

This set plan used a lot of individual exhibits that the client was familiar with but hadn’t seen them used together in a trade show environment. The 3d model was able to simulate the wide range of textures and lighting techniques to give the client a good idea beforehand as to how the exhibition stand might look.

The Ingenico part of this trade exhibition was built around a portable bar with plasma screen and computer pod workstations.
